The way Queenslanders are using energy is changing

Every year, since 2009, Ergon Energy Network and Energex have partnered with Powerlink Queensland to track the changing ways Queenslanders are using energy in their homes, as well as general customer perceptions. These insights are helping us target our investment state-wide in our electricity networks to ensure we best meet Queensland's future energy needs.

We've just done our 2024 survey, and will publish the results here shortly.

We asked things like: What does your household think about solar power, battery storage, electric vehicles and tariffs? What’s your biggest bill pain? We’re keen to know how your household uses electricity (and if it is changing), and how you feel about the value you're getting from the services we deliver.

Queensland Household Energy Survey 2023

You can check out last year's survey results: 2023 Queensland Household Energy Survey (QHES) report.

The 2023 survey draws on the responses from 4,200 Queenslanders. Along with the report, an interactive website has been created where you can explore the survey results by theme, viewing the data by location, age group, solar PV ownership and other household characteristics, track trends and more.

Survey Highlights

New to the insights report this year, several household profiles have been highlighted, outlining different opportunities and challenges for different households when it comes to decision making and emerging trends in the electricity market.

This year’s survey results show that households are starting to feel the impact of cost-of-living pressures, as more are now concerned about their ability to pay electricity bills than recorded in previous years. Households are increasingly looking at ways to reduce consumption and change behaviour, with some even indicating a potential willingness to sacrifice reliability for reduced bills.

There is evidence that uptake of some new energy technologies has waned, although interest in technologies to manage consumption has remained steady.

Understanding how our customers are changing behaviours and adopting new technology is critical to providing safe, cost effective and reliable electricity networks into the future.
